N.S government announces additional funding to community organizations aiding homelessness

By CityNews Halifax Staff

The province announced more support for Nova Scotians experiencing homelessness on Wednesday.

The government said the support, known as diversion funding, will go to 14 community-based organizations including seven in Halifax Regional Municipality.

These providers will receive $500,000 aimed at addressing barriers to finding or maintaining housing.

“Nova Scotians are facing real challenges right now when it comes to affordability, and for some, it can mean the difference between having a home or being homeless,” said Brendan Maguire, Minister of Community Services. “This additional funding is part of the overall support offered by our service providers and gives them another way to help the people they serve.”

The province said the additional funding will be used to help people with overdue power bills, rental arrears and other barriers to housing.
