One ferry delayed, another making headway in Nova Scotia

By CityNews Halifax Staff

The start of the season for the ferry that links Nova Scotia and Newfoundland is seeing a delay.

According to Marine Atlantic, the seasonal route between North Sydney and Argentia will be delayed until June 26 as repairs are being made on a new ferry.

Those impacted by the delay will be re-routed through the Gulf Service, which will offer additional crossings to Port Aux Basques through North Sydney.

Meantime, Bay Ferries is reporting bookings are up 18 per cent over this period last year for the ferry that runs between Yarmouth and Maine.

As of Wednesday, 23,188 passengers have booked the CAT ferry and nearly 2,900 passengers have taken it.

The ferry began its sailing season on May 17 and will operate five days a week until June 20 when daily service begins.

The ferry will return to a five-day service on September 17 and then continue until October 15 when service wraps up for the season.
