Waye Mason officially launches campaign for mayor

A long-time Halifax councillor is running for mayor.

District 7 Councillor Waye Mason launched his campaign on Monday at an event in Dartmouth.

“I’m running in this election because affordability and housing pains unite everyone,” Mason said in a social media post. “Getting it right demands experienced, seasoned hands and someone who is ready to be your Mayor on day one.”

Mason has been a member of the Halifax Regional Council since 2012.

He becomes the second sitting councillor to announce a bid for mayor. District 13’s Pam Lovelace has also thrown her hat in the ring for the city’s top job.

Three others, Clay Thomas Bowser, Ryan Dodge, and Nolan Greenough will also be on the ballot in the October 19 municipal election.

Halifax Liberal MP Andy Fillmore has teased his own mayoral run but has yet to make it official.

Current mayor Mike Savage announced earlier this year he would not be re-offering.
