MacKay Bridge closed this weekend for second of four summer shutdowns

A heads up for drivers in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The A. Murray MacKay Bridge will close this weekend for maintenance and inspection projects, which could make for some heavier traffic than usual.

According to Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB), the MacKay will be closed Friday, June 14 starting at 7 p.m. and will not reopen until Monday, June 17 at 5:30 a.m.

HHB says this is the second of four planned weekend closures to allow for work on the MacKay that cannot be done while the bridge is open to traffic. As a result, people can expect delays.

HHB said last Saturday, there were 47,000 crossings of the Macdonald Bridge, noting the average weekend in May is 33,000 crossings.

People are asked to plan ahead if they plan on travelling in the city and allow extra time to reach their destinations.

The MacKay will also be closed Friday, June 21 at 7 p.m. until Monday, June 24 at 5:30 a.m. as well as Friday, July 5 at 7 p.m. until Monday, July 8 at 5:30 a.m.
