Two face smuggling charges after 140 lbs. of cannabis seized at airport

By CityNews Halifax Staff

Police have charged two people in connection to a drug smuggling investigation earlier this week at Halifax Stanfield International Airport.

On Monday morning, Canada Border Services Agency officers intercepted four large suitcases containing 140 pounds of suspected cannabis.

Police said the luggage belonged to two passengers scheduled to leave the country on a flight to the United Kingdom.

CBSA officers boarded the aircraft and arrested the two passengers for smuggling a controlled substance out of Canada.

Police said the suspects were interviewed by investigators, which led to them seizing amounts of Canadian, American and British currency.

Rebekah Dublin, 22, and Shante Liverpool, 20, have been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of distributing cannabis
  • Possession for purpose of exporting cannabis
  • Possession for the purpose of selling cannabis
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Laundering proceeds of crime

They both appeared in Dartmouth Provincial Court on Tuesday and are in custody.

They were scheduled to return in court on Wednesday.
