Halifax Wanderers unsure if its highly-regarded new signing will play Monday

This past week, the Halifax Wanderers added a big name to its roster that should give them goal-scoring power.

On Wednesday, the team signed attacking midfielder Sean Rea.

The 22-year-old comes with some impressive stats, having set the league’s single-season assist record playing in 2022 for Valour FC and leading the league in chances created with 71. That was 28 more than any other player that year.

Head coach Patrice Gheisar said he’s not sure if Rea will make his debut at Monday’s Natal Day match in Halifax but even his presence should make a difference.

“We’ll get him involved, but I have to be mindful that his addition could be someone else’s elimination and we have to take care of our team chemistry,” Gheisar told CityNews Halifax. “But for sure, we are excited to have him involved very, very soon.”

Halifax’s soccer squad has some work to do in the second half as they currently sit in 8th place and Monday’s match will be a tough one with visiting Vancouver FC sitting in fifth position.

Still, Gheisar says Rea’s confidence will help the team win more games —  which, he says, will increase the team’s chances to to climb out of the CPL basement.
