RCMP charge man in connection to serious assault in Lower Sackville

Police say a man is facing a slew of charges in connection to a serious assault in Lower Sackville.

On Sunday afternoon, police responded to a report of an assault that took place the night before at a home on Boxwood Crescent where a woman was forcibly confined and assaulted by a man she knew. She was able to escape to a safe location after.

Mounties said the man, who is believed to have had access to multiple firearms, then barricaded himself inside the home.

On Monday at roughly 12:36 a.m., the man was safely arrested with the help of a crisis negotiator.

Zeth Brooks, 44, of Lower Sackville is facing a number of charges including assault with a weapon, assault by choking, forcible confinement and sexual assault, among others.

Brooks was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court earlier this week.
