Driver charged after hitting firefighter controlling traffic near Bear River

By CityNews Halifax Staff

The RCMP is investigating a collision involving a firefighter who was seriously hurt after being hit by a vehicle while attending a previous crash.

According to the Mounties, the firefighter was on the scene of a car crash on Lansdowne Road near Bear River on Tuesday in charge of traffic control.

As they were making room for a tow truck operator to move through the stopped traffic, a woman driving an SUV drove through and struck the firefighter.

In a release, RCMP say the firefighter was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A 66-year-old woman from Annapolis County was arrested at the scene and will face charges in October in Digby Provincial Court.
