Two people arrested after loaded firearm found in vehicle in Cole Harbour, police say

Halifax Regional Police has laid charges against two people after a traffic stop in Cole Harbour on Thursday.

Police say officers stopped two vehicles in a parking lot on Auburn Dr. at 2 a.m., where they found open alcohol in the vehicles.

The driver and passenger in one of the vehicles were arrested, and officers then found a loaded firearm in the vehicle.

Markel Downey, 28, is facing nine charges including several firearms-related offences. Jessica Jennings, 25, is facing seven charges.

Both of them appeared in court on Thursday and have been released on conditions with court dates set for a later time.

Police say the driver of the second vehicle did not pass a roadside breath test and had their licence suspended for seven days.
