A “state-of-the-art” magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machine is now performing scans on patients at a Halifax hospital.
The provincial health department says the new, 1.5 Tesla MRI is operational as of Monday.
“This significant advancement reaffirms our commitment to enhancing diagnostic imaging and elevating patient care across Nova Scotia,” Michelle Thompson, Minister of Health and Wellness, said. “With two cutting-edge MRI units, the new suite will help reduce wait times and provide Nova Scotians with faster access to advanced imaging. This means quicker, more accurate diagnoses, which are essential for timely and effective treatment.”
The department says the new machine provides clearer, more detailed images than previous iterations. A second, 3 Tesla MRI is expected to be operational in October.
The new machines are expected to increase the number of patients that can be seen every day, the province wrote.
