The 44th edition of AIFF wraps up; expected to exceed revenue targets

The Atlantic International Film Festival (AIFF) has now wrapped up eight days of screenings and celebrations in the city.

Nova Scotia filmmaker Jason Buxton was the winner of the AIFF DGC award for Best Atlantic Director while his movie, Sharp Corner, took home the Gordon Parsons Award for Best Atlantic Feature.

It was among more than a hundred short and long films that entertained audiences at this year’s AIFF.

Martha Cooley is the executive director of AIFF and is calling the 44th edition a rebound year.

“This year really, really felt like a return to the vibrancy, to full screenings, to full events to just like an excitement and energy around the festival that I haven’t seen in a long time,” says Cooley. “So it was an amazing event.”

Cooley says organizers are still calculating box office numbers but they have exceeded revenue targets and experienced more sold-out screenings this year than previously.

Meantime, other big winners this year included a Newfoundland movie called Skeet, which won awards for Best Atlantic Cinematographer and Best Outstanding Performance by an Actor.

Dartmouth’s Megan Wennberg won Best Atlantic Short Animation for her film, Bloody Mess.
