Man arrested following collision and attempted car theft in Hammonds Plains

A 29-year-old man from Hammonds Plains is in custody after a series of events involving a motor vehicle crash and an attempted car theft.

On Dec. 28, around 1:15 p.m., RCMP officers from the Halifax Regional Detachment, with assistance from Halifax Regional Police, responded to a crash at Larry Uteck Blvd. and Hammonds Plains Rd.

The incident involved a black Mazda M3 and a white Infiniti Q50. After the crash, police say the driver of the Mazda exited his vehicle and attempted to steal a Ford Focus that had stopped nearby. The suspect then fled on foot toward a gas station. Responding officers initially had difficulty locating him.

Officers managed to identify the man and, with help from RCMP Police Dog Services, found him at a home on White Hills Run in Hammonds Plains. The man allegedly did not follow police instructions to leave the house, but was arrested after several attempts.
