Another weekend closure is coming to the Macdonald Bridge as work continues to tear down the toll plazas on the two cross-harbour spans.
It’s only been a few days, but it’s been smooth sailing so far on the harbour bridges.
Steven Proctor, of Halifax Harbour Bridges (HHB), tells 95.7 NewsRadio that traffic has been flowing well. There have been no significant accidents and no change in traffic volume on the bridges either.
The bridge commission plans to continue monitoring, particularly traffic levels, as it’s believed removing the tolls could mean more vehicles using the bridges — but that hasn’t been the case thus far.
The Macdonald will be closed starting Friday at 7 p.m. Proctor says crews will pull out pavement near the Macdonald’s old tolls and repaving.
The bridge is scheduled to be closed until 5 a.m. Monday, but it’s possible the work might not take that long, he noted, and the bridge could reopen sometime Sunday if the weather cooperates.
The toll plazas on the MacKay Bridge will be removed starting next weekend, which will mean closures to that span.
