Halifax police charge driver for going 59 km/h over posted speed limit

Regional police have charged a driver after they were caught going 59 km/h over the posted speed limit.

At roughly 10:15 a.m. on Monday, police caught a vehicle, inbound on Highway 111 approaching Burnside Drive, going 139 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.

Police said a 22-year-old man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.

According to HRP, the fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record. In addition, the driver was suspended for seven days, and the vehicle was seized.
