Mooseheads win in overtime, take 2-0 series lead

Liam Kilfoil was the hero as the Halifax Mooseheads defeated the Drummondville Voltigeurs 3-2 in overtime, with the series now heading back to Halifax.
Drummondville and Halifax traded goals in the first period. Shawn Carrier scored his first playoff goal of his QMJHL career, sending a one timer from Quinn Kennedy past the Drummondville netminder Louis-Félix Charrois from the right wing faceoff circle. The Voltigeurs responded as Ethan Gauthier knocked the puck into the Mooseheads net after back to back saves from Jacob Steinman.
After a scoreless second period Braeden MacPhee put the Herd back on top, scoring on a rebound off of a shot from Amelio Santini. Sam Oliver seemingly tied the game back up for Drummondville with a minute remaining in the third but after a lengthy review the goal was called back.
The road to the playoffs
Oliver then redeemed himself, scoring again with 30 seconds left in the third, tipping Ethan Gauthiers’ shot past Steinman to send the game to overtime.
In overtime, Liam Kilfoil redirected a shot from Quinn Kennedy to claim the victory for the Mooseheads.
With the win the Herd have a 2-0 series lead over the Drummondville Voltigeurs.
Jacob Steinman earned first star making 45 saves, including multiple incredible saves in the win for Halifax. Second star went to Ethan Gauthier with a goal and an assist for the Volts, while third star went to the overtime hero Liam Kilfoil.
Playoffs will begin at the Scotiabank Centre on Tuesday, April 1 as they host game three against the Voltigeurs. Puck drop is at 7 p.m., and you can catch all the action here on 95.7 NewsRadio.
