The Nova Scotia Energy Board, formerly the Utility and Review Board, invoked the interrupter clause at midnight, dropping fuel prices across the province.
The price of a litre of self-serve gasoline has fallen by 6.2 cents to 143.1.
The news is even better for those buying diesel.
The cost of a litre of self-serve diesel has dropped by 11.6 cents to 149.6.
At this time last year, gas was 172.1 and diesel was 188.1.
The provincial regulator said it uses the interrupter clause in response to significant shifts in market prices for gasoline and diesel.
