Schools closed in HRM ahead of snow, slippery road conditions

It’s a snow day for thousands of students in Nova Scotia, including all students under the Halifax Regional Centre for Education (HRCE).

HRCE says all of its schools are closed today.

In a post on its website Tuesday morning, the board said the decision was made due to forecasted snow and expected slippery road conditions throughout the Halifax area.

The closure was based on the following information:

  • A forecast of 10 to 15 centimetres of snow by dismissal time
  • Road conditions expected to deteriorate throughout the day

HRCE worksites remain open.

Elsewhere, schools in Cumberland, Colchester and Pictou counties under the Chignecto-Central Regional Centre for Education are closed, as are all schools within the Strait Regional, South Shore and Annapolis Valley regional centres for education.
