Nova Scotia Stampede getting upgrades after last year’s success

After a successful inaugural event, the province is investing money to improve the Nova Scotia Stampede for years to come.

The government set aside $150,000 to directly support the event and a further $550,000 for portable bleachers for the Nova Scotia Exhibition grounds in Bible Hill.

The event combines professional rodeo, live entertainment and local vendors. The Nova Scotian government said the festival was quite a success and helped attract visitors to the area.

A report by Sport Tourism Canada noted that it generated $2.2 million in net economic activity and extended benefits to the communities of Truro and Bible Hill.

“The Nova Scotia Stampede is an exciting event that showcases the rich culture and hospitality of our province,” Dave Ritcey, Minister of Communities, Culture, Tourism and Heritage, said in a press release. “Investing in cultural and sport events attracts tourists, boosts the economy and creates thriving communities across our province.”

Spectators spent just over $1.1 million, with the most money going to accommodations, restaurants and shopping. The report also details that the majority of people (52.6 per cent) who attended the event came from outside the immediate area. About 83 per cent of people said they would be “very likely” to return to the stampede next year.

“The strong attendance and excitement at the 2024 Nova Scotia Stampede, from both locals and visitors from far and wide, show our unique ability to blend culture, sports, heritage and hospitality,” Matt Moore, CEO, Central Nova Scotia Sports & Entertainment, said. “Looking ahead to 2025, we are excited to keep growing its reputation, making the Nova Scotia Stampede a leading event for our province.”

The Nova Scotia Stampede tickets are on sale, and musical headliners have been announced, including Brett Kissel, James Barker Band, Jimmy Rankin and more.

This year’s event will be held September 18 to 21.
