Liberals complete the sweep of Halifax-area ridings

It was a strong election night for the federal Liberals in the Halifax area.

The party managed to take all five seats in Halifax Regional Municipality, improving on the 2021 performance in the area in what were largely two-horse races between the Liberals and Conservatives.

In the most surprising result of the night in the Halifax area, South Shore-St. Margarets Conservative incumbent, Rick Perkins, was defeated by Liberal Jessica Fancy-Landry in a tight race.

In the riding of Halifax, liberal Shannon Miedema cruised to a win with more than 60 per cent of the vote share. Conservative Mark Boudreau came in a distant second place, followed by NDP candidate Lisa Roberts. The riding had previously been held by now-mayor of Halifax, Andy Fillmore.

In Halifax West, it was a dominant victory for incumbent Lena Metlage Diab of the Liberal Party. Diab also took more than 60 per cent of the vote, with Conservative challenger Rob Batherson garnering just shy of 30 per cent of the vote.

It was a similar story in Dartmouth-Cole Harbour, where incumbent Darren Fisher defeated his Conservative opponent Isabelle Obeid by a near 2:1 margin.

In Sackville-Bedford-Preston, it was MLA-turned-MP Braedon Clark taking the seat for the Liberals. Conservative challenger Dave Carroll came in second, with the NDP in a distant third.

In 2021, the Liberals took four of the five ridings — all but South Shore-St. Margarets.
