A 34-year-old man from Jordan Ferry is facing multiple charges after RCMP recovered a stolen vehicle in Shelburne County last week.
In a release, Shelburne RCMP said officers responded around 9:40 a.m. on April 25 to a report of a stolen GMC Sierra in the Jordan Falls area. Two people were identified as persons of interest.
Later that morning, police received an unrelated call about two individuals on foot near Morvan Road, just outside Shelburne, who matched the descriptions. Officers, including a police dog team, began searching the area. They were told one of the suspects could be armed.
The RCMP Emergency Response Team and drone operators were brought in to assist. Around 12:40 p.m., police located the stolen truck abandoned on a side road and seized evidence at the scene.
Investigators identified the suspect as Joseph Hayden and arrested him outside a home on Sandy Point Road later that day. Police say he was not armed at the time.
Hayden is facing six charges, including motor vehicle theft, possession of property obtained by crime, unauthorized possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm knowing it was unauthorized. He appeared in court April 26 and was remanded into custody.
A second person was also arrested and is facing a charge of possession of property obtained by crime. They were released pending a future court appearance.
Police say they are still investigating whether a firearm seized during an unrelated call on April 28 is connected to the case.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Shelburne RCMP or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
