Canada leads major naval exercise off Nova Scotia coast

A major multinational military exercise is underway off the coast of Nova Scotia.

Exercise Cutlass Fury 2025 began Monday and will continue through June 18, bringing together naval and air forces from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Denmark.

Led by the Royal Canadian Navy, the exercise focuses on anti-submarine warfare and air-maritime integration. It includes ships and aircraft from the Royal Canadian Navy and Air Force, as well as the U.S. Navy, Royal Air Force, and Royal Danish Navy.

Military officials say the goal is to enhance joint operational readiness and strengthen international partnerships through realistic warfighting scenarios.

Rear-Admiral Josée Kurtz, Commander of Maritime Forces Atlantic, says the training will reinforce Canada’s commitment to international security and defence cooperation.

Commodore Jacob French, Commander of Canadian Fleet Atlantic, says the exercise provides an “invaluable opportunity” to improve tactics and forge stronger ties with allies.

Cutlass Fury is held every two years and is led by Canada.
