The province announced Monday that the YourHealth NS app will begin showing diagnostic imaging reports at the end of this month.
Starting June 30, residents will be able to access their mammogram, MRI, CT, and PET scan reports through the app. Reports completed from yesterday onwards will be available on the app two weeks after processing.
The app will display the reports but will not include the images themselves.
Health and Wellness Minister Michelle Thompson highlighted that this addition is part of ongoing efforts to empower Nova Scotians in managing their healthcare.
“We continue to advance the ability for Nova Scotians to take a greater role in the healthcare they receive,” said Minister Thompson. “The addition of these reports is part of our commitment to empower Nova Scotians to better manage their healthcare.”
According to the province, approximately 209,000 CT scans, 73,000 mammograms, 40,000 MRIs, and 3,800 PET scans were performed in Nova Scotia in 2023.
Family doctor waitlist
Many Nova Scotians are still without a family doctor in the province.
The provincial health authority says 51 people were taken off the Need a Family Practice Registry in May.
As of June 1, Nova Scotia Health says there are still 91,423 people on that list, representing about 8.6 per cent of the population.
The health authority says the 51 removed from the list in May were either attached to a provider or taken off the list as the result of ongoing work to determine if people still on the list have already been attached.
The month prior, April, saw a significant decline in numbers, with more than 2,000 people removed from the registry.
