18-year-old arrested after gunfire reported in Dartmouth

An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged following reports of gunshots in Dartmouth last night.

According to Halifax Regional Police, at around 10:30 p.m. officers responded to those reports in the area of Lahey Road and Clarence Street.

“During the investigation, officers located and seized a handgun believed to have been used during the incident,” police said in a media release. “A suspect was also located and arrested nearby.”

The 18-year-old has been charged with a long list of weapons-related charges, including:

  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace
  • Possession of a restricted firearm with accessible ammunition
  • Possession of a firearm without a license/certificate
  • Possession of a firearm/prohibited or restricted weapon obtained by crime
  • Possession of a firearm in a vehicle
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Unsafe storage of a firearm

Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to reach out to police or Crime Stoppers.
