Eight drivers fined after driving on shoulder to avoid crash in HRM

A group of drivers are now a little lighter in the wallet after trying to get around the scene of a collision in Halifax Regional Municipality on Tuesday.

At roughly 7:20 a.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 102, between exits 1A and 1H.

Police said once they arrived on scene, officers closed the 1H on-ramp, using a cruiser with emergency lights to block the road and allow first responders to do their work.

But shortly after, eight vehicles drove around the cruiser, onto the shoulder and through the scene, despite the lights and verbal commands from officers.

All were stopped and police issued 15 summary offence tickets, including eight for failing to obey a peace officer.

The fine in Nova Scotia for failing to obey a peace officer is $237.50.
