Province lifts woods ban for Pictou, Colchester counties

The provincial government is lifting the ban on activities in the woods in two more counties today.

The premier’s office says those restrictions will end at 4 p.m. on Sept. 11 for Colchester and Pictou counties.

“Our experts are watching the conditions closely, and they’ve advised we are safe to lift the woods restrictions in two more counties,” said Premier Tim Houston. “I thank everyone for their efforts to prevent wildfires through this very difficult season. With every passing day, we’re closer to getting people’s lives back to normal.”

Forest restrictions were lifted for several counties, including Halifax, at the end of August.

The ban remains in place for the following counties:

  • Cumberland
  • Hants
  • Lunenburg
  • Kings
  • Annapolis
  • Queens
  • Shelburne
  • Digby

The province says the burn ban remains in effect province-wide.
