The True Patriot Love Foundation is inviting Haligonians to walk with them Sunday, Sept. 21, in honour of Canadian veterans and those in active service.
The walk is part of the Canadian Walk for Veterans, a national movement with events popping up across the country.
“The event invites Nova Scotians to walk shoulder to shoulder with our Veterans and military families to show unity, support, and recognition for their service and sacrifice,” Eleanor Taylor, a veteran and the leader of community and engagement at the True Patriot Love Foundation, said in a statement.
Registration for the event begins at 8 a.m. at the main entrance to the Bedford Commissionaires. Opening remarks will be held at 9 a.m. before a short and accessible walk.
“The Canadian Walk for Veterans isn’t just a walk,” Taylor said, “it’s a nationwide call to action.”
The Halifax walk is in support of Paws Fur Thought. Paws Fur Thought is a Nova Scotia-based charity that pairs service dogs with Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP veterans. Since 2013, the organization has paired over 100 service dogs with those suffering from operational stress injuries or PTSD.
Funds also support a range of mental health, youth programs and rehabilitation services.
All participants will receive a custom Canada Walk for Veterans coin designed and made by a veteran-owned business in Esquimalt, B.C.
