Mooseheads down Drakkar on Student Night at Scotiabank Centre

The Halifax Mooseheads continued their extended season-opening homestand Thursday night, playing host to Baie-Comeau at Scotiabank Centre.

The home side ignited the crowd at 17:57 of the opening period when Quinn Kennedy broke the scoreless tie and put the Herd on the board. Owen Phillips picked up the lone assist on the goal. Halifax carried a 1–0 lead into the first intermission.

Kennedy struck again early in the second period, beating Drakkar netminder Lucas Beckman at 4:58 for his second of the night. Shawn Carrier and Liam Kilfoil earned assists on the play. Just 30 seconds later, Danny Walters added a third for the Mooseheads on a feed from William Bent.

Baie-Comeau responded at 9:22 of the second with a power-play goal from Justin Gendron, cutting the deficit to 3–1. That score held through the end of the middle frame.

Conner MacPherson sealed the win for Halifax with his first QMJHL goal, an empty-netter with just over a minute remaining in regulation. Patrick McNab and Phillips assisted on the marker.

Kennedy was named first star of the game for his two-goal performance. Mooseheads goaltender Owen Bresson earned second star honours with a 25-save effort, while Malik L’Italien was named third star.

Halifax improves to 3–2 on the season, while the Drakkar remain winless.

The Mooseheads return to action Sunday with a rare road game in Moncton, where they’ll face the defending league champion Wildcats. Catch all the action live on 95.7 NewsRadio at 3 p.m. with Garreth MacDonald.
