Premier Tim Houston says recent conversations with federal officials on the Wind West project, including the prime minister, were very productive.
Speaking to reporters about his meetings in Ottawa, Houston said he was very pleased with how they went.
“Excellent conversations,” he said. “They were on the same page on a lot of things, and they just want good things for Canadians and good things for Nova Scotians.”
The offshore wind project, while not one of the first five major “nation-building” projects, has been identified by Ottawa as a file it will work on with Nova Scotia to make a reality.
But Houston said he didn’t just talk about Wind West.
“We have other potential in natural resources and also potential in offshore gas again, so we had early-stage discussions on those too,” he said.
When asked if he got anything concrete out of his meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney, Houston said “yes” but wouldn’t offer any details.
The province has previously said Wind West could generate enough energy to meet one-quarter of Canada’s needs.
