Charges laid in drug case against unhoused people in Lower Sackville

RCMP officers laid several charges after arresting multiple people in connection with a drug trafficking case targeting unhoused people in Lower Sackville.
According to the press release, the RCMP Halifax detachment and Community Action Response Team charged one man with drug trafficking. On Oct. 9, police arrested three men and executed a search warrant as part of a drug case to homeless people.
“The RCMP and Halifax Regional Municipality continue to work in close partnership to uphold public safety through proactive enforcement and compassionate community support, helping to ensure the well-being of all residents, including those living in encampments,” says S/Sgt. Steve Pollock, East Operations NCO, RCMP HRD.
The three men were arrested in a parking lot in the 1800 block of Bedford Highway, while the search took place at a home on Polara Drive in Halifax Regional Municipality. During the search, officers seized a quantity of cocaine, hydromorphone pills, cash, copper wire, stripped copper, and two vehicles.
As a result, Frank George Duffy, 58, was charged with:
- Possession for the purpose of trafficking
- Possession of a prohibited weapon
- Possession of a prohibited weapon contrary to prohibition order
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (two counts)
- Possession of property obtained by crime
The accused remains in custody and is set to appear in court on Oct. 17.
A 51-year-old and 41-year-old men, both of Halifax, were released pending appearances.
