A late push by the Halifax Mooseheads wasn’t enough on Sunday as the Charlottetown Islanders skated away with a 2–1 win at Scotiabank Centre.
Will Shields opened the scoring for Charlottetown at 5:05 of the first period, firing a rebound off the end boards past Owen Bresson and into the Mooseheads’ net.
Shields struck again on the power play in the second period, taking a pass from behind the net and beating Bresson on the blocker side to extend the Islanders’ lead to two.
Will Bent brought Halifax back within one with less than two minutes remaining, capitalizing on a misplay behind the Charlottetown net and banking the puck off goaltender Carter Hickey and in. But the Mooseheads ran out of time to find the equalizer.
With the loss, Halifax fell to 11-6-1 on the season.
Shields earned first-star honours for his two-goal performance. Bresson was named second star after making 38 saves in the loss, while Marcus Kearsey took third star with an assist.
The Mooseheads return to action Saturday, Nov. 15, when they host the Moncton Wildcats at Scotiabank Centre.
Puck drop is set for 3 p.m., with live coverage on 95.7 NewsRadio. Garreth MacDonald hosts the pre-game show beginning at 2:30 p.m.
