Wildcats overpower Mooseheads with 5-1 win at Avenir Centre

The Halifax Mooseheads fell to the league-best Moncton Wildcats 5-1 at the Avenir Centre on Saturday.
Moncton scored the lone goal of the opening frame as Kuzma Voronin found the back of the Mooseheads’ net, marking his ninth goal of the season.
The Wildcats continued to control the play in the second period as Preston Lounsbury, Gabe Smith and Alex Mercier all added to the Moncton lead.
In the third, Connor MacPherson put Halifax on the board with his sixth of the season, beating Rudy Guimond at 15:29. Mercier added his second of the evening 40 seconds later to restore the Wildcats’ four-goal lead. With frustration boiling over, a fight broke out as Quinn Kennedy squared off with Aidan Diamond.
With the loss, Halifax falls to 15-11-1-1 on the season.
Moncton claimed the stars of the game as Mercier earned first star with his pair of goals. Guimond took second star with 28 saves, and third star went to Lounsbury with a goal and an assist.
Halifax will be back in action Sunday, Dec. 14, when they face the Charlottetown Islanders at the Eastlink Centre.
