The Halifax Mooseheads entered the holiday break with a 4-3 overtime win over the Saint John Sea Dogs at the Scotiabank Centre.
Amelio Santini opened the scoring for Halifax at 8:03 of the first period, tapping a pass from Will Bent past Sea Dogs netminder Rafaël Courchesne.
The Mooseheads added to their lead at 17:41 of the second as Caylen Blake powered his way past the Saint John defense before firing a backhand shot past the glove of Courchesne and into the Sea Dogs’ goal.
Saint John tied the contest early in the third period with back-to-back goals from Alexis Joseph and Zachary Morin. Santini responded for the Mooseheads at 7:03, jamming the puck into the Sea Dogs’ goal but six minutes later Alexis Joseph scored his second shorthanded goal of the night to retie the contest and force extra time.
Overtime would last just nine seconds as Eddy Doyle buried his first at the Scotiabank Centre to claim the win for the Mooseheads.
With the win, Halifax improves to 17-12-1-1 on the season.
First star of the match went to Santini with his pair of goals. Joseph earned second star with a pair of goals for the Sea Dogs while Doyle claimed third star with the game winner for the Mooseheads.
