More snow on the way for Nova Scotia this weekend

It looks like winter weather is set to impact Nova Scotia for a third straight weekend.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement, warning of a system expected to impact the province Sunday night into Monday, bringing snow and high winds.

The national forecaster says in general, the province could see 15 to 30 centimetres or more of snow.

CityNews meteorologist Allister Aalders said the storm is still on track.

“Likely beginning in the southwest of the region, Sunday morning to afternoon here in Halifax,” he said. “Looks like the timing will be afternoon to evening. Still a bit of uncertainty, plus or minus three to six hours. And then in the north and east, late Sunday and Sunday night, the heaviest snow.”

Aalders said this is a more significant wind event for the region compared to the previous storms, adding wind gusts could reach upwards of 70 and 80 km/h.

Meantime, Nova Scotia Power announced on Friday that it would be activating its Emergency Operations Centre on Sunday ahead of the storm.

“Our team has been monitoring the weather and using that information to finalize plans so we’re ready to respond,” said Charlene MacMullin, Nova Scotia Power’s storm lead.

“Based on the recent weather forecasts, we’re opening our Emergency Operations Centre to ensure we are prepared and coordinated in our response efforts as crews are getting ready across the province.”
