RCMP investigates parking lot shooting in Westphal

The RCMP is appealing to the public for information as officers investigate a shooting in the Westphal area on Thursday evening.

Police say reports of the shooting came in around 5:45 p.m. from a parking lot in the 700 block of Highway 7.

“Officers learned a man was sitting in a parked Buick Envista when a BMW X3 pulled into the parking lot. The driver exited the BMW and fired shots into the Buick,” read a media release from the RCMP. “The BMW fled the scene heading east.”

Police say that the vehicle was found on North Preston Road a short time later, but the driver sped away from officers. They say the car was then found abandoned further along North Preston Road.

The RCMP says the 19-year-old victim was not injured.

Anyone with information is asked to call police or to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
