Macdonald Bridge to shut down for maintenance Saturday night

Travellers looking to cross Halifax’s Angus L. Macdonald Bridge late at night over the weekend will need to plan ahead.

The municipality’s cross-harbour span will be closed to vehicles from Saturday at 8 p.m. to Sunday at 5:30 a.m.

Halifax Harbour Bridges says the move is in order to activate the second phase of Project LifeSpan, an ongoing initiative aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability of the bridge.

Cyclists and pedestrians will still be able to cross the Macdonald Bridge during these hours, but they could experience delays.

Motorists are reminded they can travel across the MacKay Bridge as an alternate route.

According to HHB, Project LifeSpan is “focused on inspecting, repairing, and recoating key structural steel components of the Macdonald Bridge to help ensure the long-term safety and reliability of this critical transportation link.”
