P.E.I. school assistant facing assault charges after investigation involving student

KENSINGTON — Police in Prince Edward Island say an educational assistant is facing assault charges following an investigation involving an eight-year-old student.
The Kensington Police Service says the 38-year-old woman was employed at Queen Elizabeth Elementary School in the small Island town of Kensington.
The police service says the investigation started after they received a complaint from the Public Schools Branch.
Police say the woman has been charged with three counts of assault, three counts of assault causing bodily harm and one count of assault with a weapon.
A news release says the accused will appear in provincial court in Summerside, P.E.I., at a later date.
