Police call for information after no closure in decade-old homicide case

It’s been 10 years since Halifax Regional Police found a 48-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound behind an elementary school.
Rickey Walker, a described “humble man” by family and a call centre employee, died from his injuries after he called 911 on Sept. 1, 2016.
Police were called to the wooded area behind John McNeil Elementary School in Dartmouth’s Albro Lake neighbourhood around 2:52 a.m. He was in medical distress, officers said, and was quickly brought to hospital.
Officials are renewing a call for information as the investigation has stalled into his death. The case is part of the Nova Scotia reward system, offering anyone with $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.
“Investigators believe there are people who have information that could help solve Rickey’s murder and we hope that the passage of time encourages them to do the right thing and share what they know with police,” a previous HRP news release reads. “It is never too late to come forward and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation into Rickey’s murder.”
Family remembers him as ‘humble’ man
Brandon, Walker’s nephew, told CityNews previously that his uncle was seen in downtown Dartmouth late in the morning on August 31, 2016. He was last spotted on Highfield Park Drive at around 11 p.m. that night.
He was a call centre manager and his nephew remembers him as a humble family man.
For the family, it’s a matter of having closure.
Current and former employees also said that Walker worked for over ten years and one employee that didn’t want to be named said he “was such a kind heart to everyone,” in the three years that he had worked with him.
