Pride Week begins in Halifax

The 27th annual Halifax Pride Festival kicks off today with the Pride Flag Raising and Mayor’s Reception at Grand Parade and City Hall.

Halifax’s celebration is the fourth largest Pride festival in Canada, and the schedule is jam packed.

2014 chair Ramona Westgate told News 95.7, the LGBTQ+ cultural festival offers a little something for everyone.

“Our Dykes vs. Divas game,” said Westgate.  “And we have the memorial vigil which takes place on Monday evening.”

That only scratches the surface of the events, Westgate added there are some new events this year.

“We have the youth event on the grounds, which is specifically for youth, those 19 years of age and under.”

One of the biggest events is the Pride Parade, which will go through downtown Saturday, July 26 starting at 1:30 p.m.
