A proposed North Street development is moving forward despite objections and a staff recommendation to the contrary.
The development would see a 75-unit building built at the corner of North and Oxford Street were a rooming house currently stands.
Councillor Jennifer Watts told Metro Halifax that she has heard from neighbours who are opposed to the project, adding they were never consulted.
Councillor Linda Mosher, who opposed the development, said its current design doesn’t fit in with the rest of the area.
However, others on council supported the plan suggesting that the location is great, and adding more residential space on the peninsula is a big part of the regional plan.
Council will now begin the process of amending the land use by-law to allow for the building’s construction. They have told the developer to hold public meetings with residents and be open to changing the final design plans.
