Two men charged after climbing Nova Centre construction crane

Halifax Regional Police say two men in their 20s are facing charges after climbing one of the cranes at the Nova Centre construction site downtown.

Witnesses told police the men made it to the very top of crane one.

Constable Pierre Bourdages told News 95.7 this all went down just before 1 a.m. today.

“One individual made his way down peacefully and was arrested for public intoxication,” said Bourdages.  “The second man refused to come down, an officer had to reach out to where he was, he assaulted the police officer and resisted arrest.”

Bourdages said the men were lucky to have not been hurt.

“It’s an extremely dangerous site to work at in broad daylight when you have the proper equipment,” said Bourdages.  “So, think about being intoxicated in the middle of the night when there’s limited light and you don’t know the site, it could have been disastrous.”

Bourdages said the man charged with public intoxication will be released when he sobers up, the other will appear in court today.
