AG calls upcoming Washmill underpass report “complex”

The city’s auditor general says a probe into the Washmill Lake Drive underpass is more complicated than the review he did of Halifax’s cash-for-concerts scandal.

Larry Munroe told The Chronicle Herald, it’s by far the most difficult report he’s ever done.

The concert scandal in 2011 left taxpayers with a bill totalling more than $350,000 because a promoter couldn’t repay funds given by the city’s former mayor and chief administrator.

The $16-million underpass is near Bayers Lake, it opened about three years ago and was $6-million over budget.

Munroe said the project involves complex engineering and geology issues

The Herald said the auditor general’s report on the structure is expected to be more than 100-pages long, including more than 50-recommendations and is almost complete.
