SPRINGHILL, N.S. – Correctional officers at the Springhill Institution in Nova Scotia have ended a week-long lockdown and search at the federal prison, saying they confiscated some unauthorized items.
Prison officials issued a statement saying a search was carried out but they did not say what was seized.
However, Correctional Services Canada indicated it is strengthening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions.
When the search started Dec. 31 at the medium-security prison, spokeswoman Shannon Oickle declined to say what prompted the move.
She did say prisoners were confined to their cells and visits were cancelled.
