Nova Scotia governance study falls through

A proposed study that was to look into how municipalities in Nova Scotia’s Pictou County could better govern themselves has died on the negotiating table.
The county’s mayors and warden issued a joint statement Friday saying they couldn’t agree on how to pay for the study.
Pictou County Warden Ron Baillie says two municipalities – Stellarton and Westville – were unwilling to contribute, arguing the province should cover the entire $300,000 bill.
The County of Pictou, as well as the towns of New Glasgow, Pictou and Trenton had each committed to paying $25,000 each.
Baillie said the proposed study is now ”a dead issue.”
