Third period breakdown costs Mooseheads

A near sellout crowd at the Halifax Metro Centre couldn’t help the Halifax Mooseheads beat the Moncton Wildcats.
Pulling out to a 3-1 lead going into the third period on goals from Garrett Clarke, Charles Bety and Pascal Amyot the Mooseheads looked to be riding high.
But the Wildcats only had to play one period to win, with three unanswered goals in the third period to win 4-3. The game was a penalty-riddled affair which saw the Mooseheads on two 5-on-3 powerplays which they couldn’t capitalize on.
The loss mathematically puts the Mooseheads out of the playoffs. It was the team’s final home game of the season as the curling Brier takes over the Metro Centre Ice, leaving the team to finish the final six games on the road.
The Moose have a rematch with the Moncton Wildcats Sunday in Moncton. The game originally scheduled for 4 p.m. has been moved to a 2 p.m. start to accommodate the Olympic men’s hockey gold medal game. Catch the call for both games live on News 957.
