Teens nabbed in car theft attempt

Halifax Police say a pair of teens face several charges after officers thwarted an alleged attempt to steal a motor vehicle.

Police say they responded to Baker Drive in Dartmouth around 4 a.m. after a report of two people trying to break into a motor home.

While in the area, a patrol found an abandoned stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Petro Canada gas station on Portland Street.

“Our officers and the canine unit responded and they picked up a track which eventually led officers to an address on Gaston Road in Dartmouth,” said HRP spokesperson Theresa Rath. “That’s when they discovered a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old in the parking lot attempting to steal another vehicle. They were taken into custody and they both face a number of charges.”

Police say a 17-year-old boy faces charges including break and enter, theft and possession of a stolen motor vehicle under $5,000 and attempted theft of a motor vehicle under $5,000.

An 18-year-old also faces charges including break and enter, theft and possession of a stolen motor vehicle under $5,000, attempted theft of a motor vehicle under $5,000, possession of break and enter tools and eight counts of breaching probation.
