Dalhousie talks move forward after government pension decision

Talks to head off a strike at Dalhousie University have taken a big step forward with a government announcement.
The province says the University will be exempt from the pension solvency test, meaning the pension plan won’t have to make special payments of $50-million per year.
Dr. Anthony Stewart with the Faculty Association says he’s optimistic now that this stumbling block has been removed.
“This is the best position that both sides have been in to get a deal at the table in quite some time,” said Stewart.
Conciliation talks continued Thursday. The faculty is in a legal strike position and has served notice that it will walk out Monday if there’s no deal.
