Suspicious fire destroys fire training building

A Lakeside building that was used to train local firefighters to rescue people from burning homes is a complete loss after someone torched it when the firefighters weren’t around.

The three-storey building behind the Myra Road station was lit up Sunday afternoon, although nobody saw the fire start.

The Herald reports firefighters at the station smelled wood burning and noticed smoke blowing around 1 p.m.

It took 30 firefighters with six trucks to get control of the situation, and althouth the building is still upright a platoon chief says it’s a total loss – which will be a blow to the fire service.
