DARTMOUTH — Members of Halifax Regional Police were on-scene late Tuesday at an apartment building where it was reported that a man may have access to a firearms inside.
Earlier Tuesday, RCMP arrived at the address on 79 Lakecrest Drive in Dartmouth to arrest a 19-year-old man wanted on a warrant. Investigators believe the man inside may be armed.
Cst. Stacy Opalka with Regional Police on scene said some units in the building were evacuated earlier Tuesday afternoon.
“The whole apartment building wasn’t evacuated, we have evacuated some of the units adjacent to the particular unit that we’re interested in for precautionary reasons.”
Police were trying to make contact with the man late Tuesday, but Opalka didn’t describe the situation as a stand-off — saying police given the scenario — will overreact in situations like this rather than under-react so they can bring things to a successful conclusion.
Police negotiators remained on scene during the early evening hours Tuesday. More to come.
