Legal battle stalls commuter rail study

A feasibility study on commuter rail has been stalled by HRM’s legal battle with CN.

The company and municipality are at odds over who should pay for repairs to rail bridges in HRM.

Metro Halifax reports CN is now refusing to cooperate with a study of the viability and cost of commuter rail until the legal battle is resolved.

The study is expected to cost $250,000, and city staff say the information CN can provide is “integral.”

Ken Reashor, the director of public works, says there’s no way of moving the study forward if CN isn’t willing to help.
