Municipality kicking off Centre Plan with Monday night event

The Halifax Regional Municipality is hosting an open house of sorts on Monday evening to ‘gain some momentum’ for its Centre Plan.
The plan looks to update current land-use regulations and policies that govern the urban cores of Dartmouth and Halifax and put together a Secondary Municipal Planning Strategy.
Tiffany Chase with HRM says those policies were developed in the 70s and 80s, and don’t match the area’s needs going forward.
“A lot of things have changed over the last few decades in terms of how we build our buildings, the materials that we use, the way that we design them to make sure that they are sustainable.”
The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at Alderney Landing in Dartmouth, and Chase says residents are encouraged to come and let the municipality know what they want to see for the downtown until 9 p.m.
“We want to hear from people in person and there will be opportunity for you to provide comments and feedback on-site at the event as well.”
The Centre Plan is the third phase of HRMbyDesign.
